Lt. Ronald Eugene "Rolo" Gilbert passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at Flowers Hospital after a brief illness. He was 41.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church in Holmes County with the Revs. John Hinkle and John Woodrow officiating. Ronald will be placed into the church one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Geneva, Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 5 until 8 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Geneva Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 37, Geneva, AL 36340, or Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, 1210 Highway 177A, Bonifay, FL 32425.
Ronald was born Feb. 21, 1966, in Geneva County to Loutrell Odom Gilbert and the late Harvey Eugene Gilbert. He proudly served as an Investigator with the Geneva Police Department. He had a loving, giving heart and was ready to help anyone in need. Affectionately known as "Rolo," he was a man of honor, his word was his bond. He enjoyed farming and just working the land God provided. He was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church.
In addition to his father, his grandparents, C.W. and Ruby Gilbert and Charlie and Myrtie Odom, preceded him in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Melinda Gilbert of Dothan; his mother, Loutrell Odom Gilbert; one sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Leon Eldridge all of Bonifay, Fla.; two granddaughters, Morgan Post of Geneva and Willow King of Dothan; two nephews, Ward and Matthew Eldridge of Bonifay, Fla.; brother-in-law, Tony Helms of Geneva; special friends, Michael Hughes of Geneva and Tim Lewis of Bonifay, Fla.; his law enforcement family, the entire Geneva Police Department and Rescue Squad, who were very special and close to his heart; several special aunts, uncles, cousins, other extended family and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Helms, Danny Staley, Tony Clemmons, David Helms, Michael Hughes and George Faas.
