David Eugene West of Dothan, passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 79.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Memphis Baptist Church with the Revs. Rick Glen and Larry Newton officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Robert Byrd of Sunset Memorial Park, Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday at Memphis Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers and food memorial donations may be made to Childrens Hospital, Birmingham.
Mr. West was born on Sept. 11, 1928, to Eugene and Willie E. West in Dothan. He was in the U.S. Navy for 4 years and is a veteran of the Korean War. Mr. West was a farmer for several years and served as President of Hog Producers Association, Cattlemans Association, Vice President of Alabama Seedsman Association, Agriculture Chairman of the National Peanut Festival, past President and Chairman of the Board of the National Peanut Festival. Mr. West was also employed with a local peanut company as a manager of two buying points. He founded D and J Outlet and Nursery until his retirement and turned his business over to his son Stanley. Mr. West was a member of Memphis Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Jo West of Dothan; sons, Stanley West and his wife, Carla, of Dothan, Patrick West and his wife, Stacy, of Dothan, Michael West and his wife, Donna, of Dothan; grandchildren, Tonya Holland and her husband, Mike, of Dothan, Torri Connell of Dothan, Emily Lassiter and her husband, Ryan, of Dothan, Sgt. Zane G. West and his wife, Brandi, of Dothan, Gethe West of Dothan, Jade West of Dothan, Lillian West of Dothan; great-grandchildren, Abby and Reid Holland, Paydon West and Hudson Lassiter, all of Dothan; a brother, Kenneth West of Dothan; a sister, June Halstead of Dothan.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Gregg Thompson, Calvin Kelley, Fred Helms, Denson Helms, James Hulon and Brandon Price.
