Jesse R. Woods, a resident of Ashford, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at his residence. He was 74.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Union Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. John Smith and Rob Lightsey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. At other times, they will be at 11 Woodland Road in Ashford. Mr. Woods will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Monday.
Mr. Woods was born Sept. 24, 1933, in Houston County and lived most all of his life there. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Woods was employed with the Houston County Road & Bridge Department for several years. He was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.
Mr. Woods is predeceased by his wife, Mildred Faye Woods, and his parents, Jesse Thomas and Carolyn Moore Wood.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Monty Ahrens of Ravenna, Neb.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Hellen Woods of Ashford and Randall and Denise Woods of Coffee Springs; grandchildren, Bobby and Daniel Wilkes, Brandy Thaxton, Joshua Spicer, David and Sarah Woods, Buck Ratliff, Whitney, Joshua, Ashley, Taylor and Cody Ahrens; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
