Edgar "Ed" Peter, a resident of Dothan and formerly of Quincy, Ill., passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center after an extended illness. He was 72.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at St. Columba Catholic Church with Monsignor Patrick Gallagher officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd of Sunset Memorial Park, Funeral Home and Crematory directing. A wake service will be held from 10:30 a.m. until service time at St. Columba. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the St. Columba building fund at 2700 W. Main St., Dothan, AL 36303 or to Dialysis Clinic, Inc. (DCI) at 1546 E. Main St., Dothan, AL 36301.
Mr. Peter was born on Feb. 14, 1935, in Quincy, Ill., to the late Lawrence and Justina Peter. He married Marlene Clark on
Sept. 6, 1958. After retirement from Quincy School District, Ed and Marlene moved to Dothan. Edgar was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church. He had a passion for radio controlled planes and was a member of both the Southern R.C. Flyers of Dothan and the Wiregrass R.C. Club of Ft. Rucker.
Mr. Peter was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Peter, and two brothers, Gerald Peter and Delbert Peter.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Marlene Peter of Dothan; his mother Justina Peter of Quincy, Ill.; sisters, Carol Darnell and her husband, Gary, of Quincy, Ill., Barbara Grawe of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Clarence Peter and his wife, Nancy of Dothan; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews; special friends, Belcher and Nancy Griffin, and their sons, Justin and Jared, and a special niece, Penny Fuller.
Serving as pallbearers will be Belcher Griffin, Jared Griffin, Allen Bourland, Charlie Dicey, Tim Peter and Jeremy Hughes.
