Mr. Dewey Coker, Sr. of Dothan, died Monday, October 1, 2007 at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 83.
Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Don Tew and Bob Zbinden officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, October 2, 2007. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Heritage Baptist Church Building Fund.
Mr. Coker was born January 8, 1924 in Liberty County, Florida, the son of the late John Coker and Quilly Lambert Coker. He was a founding member of Heritage Baptist Church. He worked for Schulman Wrecker Service and was also known as the "Candy Man." He loved people and Rays Restaurant.
He is preceded in death by three brothers, John L., Mal, J.D. Coker, one sister, Mozelle Coker.
Survivors include: his wife of 65 years, Louise Coker of Dothan; daughter, Deborah Snell and her husband, David of Dothan; son, Bill Coker and his wife, Miriam of Dothan; sister, Loretta Adams and her husband, Ralph of Pensacola, Fl.; three grandchildren, Stacee Miller and her husband, Mark, Matthew Snell and his wife, Natalie, Shelley Snell, three great-grandchildren, Matthew David Snell, Jr., Macon Miller, and Mary Beth Miller.
Active pallbearers will be: nephews and grandsons, Mark Dunning, Mike Dunning, Greg Dunning, Matthew Snell, Mark Miller, and Rusty Harris.
Honorary pallbearers will be: the Deacons of Heritage Baptist Church, and the James Tew Sunday School Class.
