Nancy Suzanne Armstrong Owens, of Gordon, peacefully passed away in the arms of an angel Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan from injuries sustained in a fire, and after a yearlong courageous battle with lung and brain cancer.
Nancy requested to be cremated, so a memorial service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at The Pointe Ministries, 4198 Montgomery Highway, with Jeff Noles officiating.
Nancy was born Aug. 8, 1958, in Columbia, S.C., and adopted by Joseph Robert and Mary Frances Culbreth Armstrong. She lived her early life in Clearwater, Fla., before relocating with her family to Gordon in 1973.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Cpl. Robert Ellis Armstrong.
Survivors include three daughters, Kelli Suzanne (Newberry) McKnight and husband David of New York, Staci Leighanne Hansard and fiancee Robbie Brown of Newville, and Kati Breanne Owens of Gordon; a grandson, Gage McKnight of New York; a niece, Cassi Armstrong of Clearwater, Fla.; an aunt, Irma Armstrong Warr of Elba; several cousins including a very special one, Debbie Verastigue of Houston and a special friend, June Tice.
"Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, dont lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee, God wanted me now; he set me free!"
