Dirl R. Tindell of the Pollard Mill Community near Hartford, passed away Friday evening, September 21, 2007, in Flowers Hospital. He was 79.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Sorrells Funeral Home chapel in Slocomb with the Rev. Jack Kale officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 10 a.m. until service time.
Dirl was born November 21, 1927, in Geneva County to the late James Tindell and Dollie Sorrells Tindell Harrison. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force as well as Civil Service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Driggers, a son, Carl Tindell, and a sister, Nadine Ellis.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Beverly Tindell, Hartford; a daughter, Barbara Sikes, Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Delmar Harrison (Skip) and John "Al" Harrison (Martha), all of Hartford; four grandchildren, Scott Mitchell, Shawna Turner (Scott), Robert Tindell (Brandy) and Chad Tindell; one great-granddaughter, Nikki Mitchell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the First U.M. Church of Hartford, 205 South 3rd Ave., Hartford, Ala., 36344, or the American Lung Association, 3125 Independence Drive, Suite 325, Birmingham, Ala., 35209.
Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb has charge of arrangements.
