Mr. John Arthur Brown of Ashford passed away Saturday afternoon, September 22, 2007, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 69.
Funeral services are Monday, September 24, 2007, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home of Ashford with the Rev. Freddie McCain officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Memory Hill Cemetery with Full Masonic Rites at graveside.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the wife and great-grandchildren, Katy and Noah McConnell. Other than scheduled visitation times, the family will receive friends at the residence of Mrs. Ruby Brown.
Mr. Brown was born September 5, 1938 in Houston County to the late Johnny W. Brown and Wilma V. Capps Brown. Mr. Brown served in the Navy in 1955 to 1959. He was a member of the Ashford Masonic Lodge and attended Bethel Baptist Church. He sang bass with the Crimson River Quartet for many years. He was a loving husband, father, and a grandfather to a loving family and also a great friend to many people.
Mr. Brown is preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Brown and Donnie Brown; mother-in-law, Fannie Lou Anthony; father-in-law, Dan Charles Gordon Sr.; and one grandson, Travis Schuman.
Mr. Brown is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Ruby Brown of Ashford; two special great-grandchildren, Katy and Noah McConnell of Ashford; one daughter, Tina Brown of Ashford; two sons, Stan Brown and his wife Pam of Meridianville, Ala., and Jimmy Brown and his wife Sally of San Jose, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Gloria Cruitt and her husband Wayne of Daphne, Ala.; two brothers, Kenneth Brown and his wife Catherine of Ashford, and Gary Brown and his wife Gail of Dothan; sister-in-law Thelma Brown of Ashford; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and Betty Kyser, the mother of Mr. Browns two sons.
Active pallbearers will be members of the Ashford Masonic Lodge. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ashford Masonic Lodge, and the Crimson River Quartet. Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
