Dewey Lee Tate of Headland died Tuesday night, Sept. 18, 2007, at the home of a son in Malone, Fla. He was 77.
Funeral services will be Thursday in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel at 3 p.m. with the Rev. James A. Rich and Emerald Coast Hospice Chaplain Gino Mayo officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, 4374 Lafayette Street, Marianna, Florida 32446.
Mr. Tate was born in Dothan but was reared in the Concord community of Henry County. He lived in the Headland area all of his adult lifetime. Mr. Tate was engaged in farming most of his life and formerly owned and operated Prices Store in Newville. Mr. Tate served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Concord Baptist Church. Mr. Tate was preceded in death by his father, Anderson Dewey Tate, a daughter, Pamela Jane Tate and also a sister, Kathleen Tate.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Gregory D. Tate and wife, Tami Tate, Malone, Fl.; Tim Tate and wife, Linda Tate, Ozark, Al.; Tod Tate and wife, Therisa Tate, Newville; his mother, Pearl Smothers Tate, Headland; three sisters, Betty June Johnston and husband, Louis Johnston, Echo community; Dianne Hodges and husband, Kenneth Hodges, Headland; Nancy Ilene Luhn and husband, Anthony Luhn, Headland; eight grandchildren, Amanda Tate, Michael Tate, Christopher Tate, Hunter Tate, Wendy Atwood, Nathan Atwood, Tommy Frazier and Kevin Frazier; two great-grandchildren, Colton Frazier and Landon Frazier.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Kenneth Hodges, Ken Hodges, Anthony Luhn, Mark Johnson, Freddie Tew and Ben Richards.
