Robert M. Johanningsmeier of Dothan died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 89.
Memorial services will be Sunday at Cloverdale United Methodist Church 3 p.m.with the Rev. Bob Yawn officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2 to 2:45 p.m. prior to service time in the Cloverdale UMC gathering room.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cloverdale United Methodist Church, 102 Rollins Avenue, Dothan, AL 36301.
Mr. Johnanningsmeier was born Jan. 1, 1918, in Freelandville, Ind., to Simon Johanningsmeier and Lula Schulte Johanningsmeier. He had been a resident of Dothan since 1999, moving from Orlando, Fla. Mr. Johanningsmeier attended Purdue University and was in the U.S. Army serving as Master Sgt. in the Korean Conflict and also served in World War II. He later was employed as a business manager in the automobile industry. Mr. Johanningsmeier was a member of Cloverdale UMC, where he was in the Jack Roney Sunday school class.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Leona Marie Johanningsmeier, who died in March 2007 and sister, Ruth Hotes.
Survivors include two sons, Alan Johanningsmeier (Kathy) of Cannon Falls, Minn., Steven Johanningsmeier (Amina) of Orlando, Fla.; daughter, Mary Sue Morgan of Dothan; brother, Paul Johanningsmeier (Fava) of Jeffersonville, Ind.; two grandchildren, Melissa Johanningsmeier of Austin, Texas, Tracy Tooze of Minnesota; great-grandson, Lukas Gillespie of Minnesota.
Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory, (334) 702-1712, is in charge of arrangements.
