Chester McGowin, a resident of Wiregrass Nursing Home and formerly of Samson, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007. He was 89.
Funeral services will be Saturday in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Samson at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mr. McGowin retired from the City of Samson after many years of service. He was an avid farmer and gardener.
He was preceded in death by his wife Myrtie Ilene McGowin; brother, Lee Roy McGowin; and two sisters, Orena Renfroe and Marie Tooke.
Survivors include two sons, James McGowin and wife Mary Alice of Coffee Springs and Dykes McGowin and wife Hazel of Samson; two daughters, Ruth Weeks and husband Coleman of Darlington, Fla., and Sue C. Johnson of Samson; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and two sisters, Lena Logan of Samson and Evelyn Anderson of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.
Pittman Funeral Home in Samson, (334) 898-7141, is in charge of arrangements.
