Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Danny Sumerlin officiating. Burial will follow at Howards Grove Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007.
Mr. Ray was born March 1, 1924, in Cottonwood, the son of the late General Dewey and Corina Ray. He worked for Wallace Community College and retired with thirty plus years.
He was preceded in death by sons and daughters, Martha Ellen Ray, Dewey Earl Ray, Myrtle Joyce Ray, Martha Lefever; sisters and brothers, Ellen Hunkapiller, Sylvia Strickland, Adis Ray, James Ray, Leona Fredrickson and Gladys Hart.
Survivors include: wife of sixty four years, Merline Ray; four daughters and one son, Carol Reader and her husband, Steve of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Larry Ray of Midland City; Anne Woodham and her husband, Randy of Dothan; Mary Ray of Midland City; Myra Bright and her husband, James of Midland City; sisters, Estelle Hard of Dothan; Jewel Williams of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; brother, Robert Ray and his wife, Shirley of Dothan; fourteen grandchildren, and thirty one great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Bubba Bright, Donny Bright, Clay Bright, Nathan Bright, Jon Hill and Bobby Hill.
Honorary pallbearer will be Ray Barber, Jonathan Dykes and Daniel Albritton.
