Mary Lou Shelley of the Tumbleton community in Henry County, died early Tuesday morning, July 31, 2007, in a Dothan hospital. She was 78.
Funeral services will be Thursday in New Zion Free Will Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joey Pettis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Edna Whitehead, 302 Murray Street, Headland, AL 36345.
Miss Shelley was born and reared in the Tumbleton community of Henry County, daughter of the late Adie Shelley and Cora Stephenson Shelley. She was 1946 graduate of Headland High School and later received a B.S. Degree in Education from Troy State University. Miss Shelley furthered her education toward a masters degree at Ohio University. She lived in Panama City, Fla., from 1961 until returning to the Tumbleton community in 2001. Miss Shelley retired as a school teacher from Jenks Junior High School in Panama City. She was a member of the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving relatives include a sister, Kathryn Shelley of Dallas; six brothers, Bob Shelley, Oneal Shelley and wife Delane Shelley, Tom Shelley and wife Miriam Shelley, all of the Tumbleton community, Carl B. Shelley and wife Susan Shelley of Houston, Pete Shelley and wife Mae Shelley, Ronny Shelley, all of the Tumbleton community; several nieces and nephews.
