Mrs. Gladys Cook Chesnut of Gordon died Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at her residence following an extended illness. She was 80.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P. M. Friday, July 27, 2007 at Liberty Baptist Church with Reverends Coley M. Holloway and David Grier officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday, July 26, 2007. Flowers will be accepted.
Mrs. Chesnut was born December 16, 1926 in Bushnell, Florida, the daughter of the late Coy Cook and Thelma Glass Cook. Gladys has lived in Gordon, Alabama for the past sixty years. She married R.O. (Buddy) Chesnut on October 11, 1946. She was a lifetime member of Liberty Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Coy and Thelma Cook, one brother, Leon Cook and his wife, Agnes, and sisters-in-law, Billerene Cook, Vivian Bingham, Maggie Hatfield, Vassie Mae Chestnut, brothers-in-law, Dewey and James Chestnut, George McNiel, Jr. and Alton Hatfield.
Survivors include: her husband of sixty years, R.O. (Buddy) Chesnut of Gordon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Becky Chestnut of Dothan, Al.; John and Wendy Chesnut of Dothan, Al.; two brothers, Coy Cook of Auburndale, Fl.; Freeman and Sylvia Cook of Winter Haven, Fl.; one sister, Lottie Bell McNiel of Pansey, Al.; four sisters-in-law, Edna and Charles Moore of Ozark; Ruth and Howard Dovre of Dothan; Joyce and Ed Hasty of Sacramento, CA.; six grandchildren, Chris and his wife, Dana, Jeff and his wife, Keri, Bill and his wife, Mandy, Amy Davis and her husband, Robert, Jessica Foster and her husband, Shannon, Jacey Chesnut, ten great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be: Raymond Sessions, Chris Chestnut, Jeff Chestnut, Bill Chestnut, Jason Shiver, Jason Raley, and Larry Chesnut.
