Mrs. Chavis was called home to be with her savior on Thursday, July 17, 2007. She was 73.
Home going services for Mother Chavis will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at New Birth Holiness Church in Abbeville with Pastor Wright officiating. Visitation services will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 23, at Stanford Funeral Home in Abbeville.
On Sept. 10, 1933, in Lake Charles, La., she was born to her parents, Helen and Curtis Adams. During her lifetime, she was a seamstress, beautician and a self-taught artist. Her greatest work was for the Lord. She was a member of New Testament Apostolic Holiness Church of Longville, La., where she was a church mother. In January 1998, she moved to Abbeville, where she continued working for the Lord. She was a member of New Birth Holiness Church in Abbeville. She was the first Sunday school teacher, a vacation bible school teacher, and a church mother.
Mother Chavis leaves to cherish one sister, Sylvia Thomas (Matt) of Oxnard, Calif., and eight daughters: Stephanie Jones, Lynda Gulliory, Cynthia Victorian (Greg), Ronnie Gayle Adams-Russell (Sylvester), Kelly Semien (Gerald), Debra Wright (Robert), Patricia Coker (Terry), and Angelia Chavis. She had 14 grandchildren, Schelesa, Troy, Sean, Deanna, Darryl, Bree, Sheena, Sharon, Dieatra, Jordan, Vanetta, Tana, Robert (Lil Man), and Adriana. She had 13 great-grandchildren, four nieces, four nephews, and a host of friends.
