Mrs. Verna Smith Proctor, 528 S. Saint Andrews St. of Dothan, passed away Tuesday evening at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center with her loving family at her side. She was 88.
Funeral Services will be Friday in Madrid Assembly of God Church at 2 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Jerry Harden. The interment will immediately follow the service at Madrid City Cemetery. The visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Dothan. Other than scheduled visitation times the family will gather at the residence of daughter (Mary Chason 3669 Iris Rd. Dothan.)
Mrs. Proctor was born on Dec. 24, 1918, in Geneva County. Mrs. Proctor was a loving homemaker who enjoyed quilting and fishing. She was a member of Madrid Assembly of God Church for over 58 years. Mrs. Proctor will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by parents, William Smith and Mary Kirkland Smith; husband, Neal Proctor; two sons, John Proctor and Fraizer Proctor; grandson, James Proctor; three sisters and one brother.
She is survived by children, Jiles Whit Proctor and wife (Edwinna) of Madrid, Luneal Morris of Clermont, Fla., Mary Chason and husband (Charles) of Hodgesville, Elaine Howell and husband (James) of Dothan, Sonny Proctor of Dothan, George Proctor of Apalachicola, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Active pallbearers will be John Chason , Perry Smith, Richard "Poncho" Morris, Wyndell Shirah, Roy Barbaree and Gene Shirah.
Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home in Dothan, (334) 793-1117, is in charge of arrangements.
