Leona Clark Horne of Dothan died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at Westside Terrace. She was 98.
Funeral services will be Sunday in Tabernacle United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. with the Revs. C. Jonathan Couey and Dean Allerheiligen officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Horne will be placed in the church one hour prior to services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Methodist Childrens Home, P.O. Box 830, Selma, AL 36702-0830 or to the Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 4205 S. Brannon Stand Road, Dothan, AL 36305.
Mrs. Horne was born May 19, 1909, to George Dee and Ella Trawick Clark in Geneva county and resided most of her life in the Tabernacle community. She was a graduate of Dothan High School, class of 1926 and attended Troy Normal College, now Troy University. She transferred to Auburn University, where she received her B.S. degree in education. She taught school at Big Creek, Malvern, Slocomb, Cottonwood and Rehobeth. She was the widow of Clayton Horne and after his death in 1977, she operated the Horne and Dee Clark farms. She was a member of the Tabernacle United Methodist Church, where she served on the administrative board as well as the board of trustees.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Horne was preceded in death by a brother, W. M. Clark, and by a sister, Maude Pruett.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane H. Ramsey of Dothan; a granddaughter, Margaret Valenza and her husband Donald of Dothan; a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Valenza of Dothan; a sister, Carolyn Simmons of Andalusia; several nieces, nephews and other family members.
