After months of Dothan residents adamantly opposing the construction of a Flying J Travel Plaza, those same residents have now voted to recind their opposition. Now that Flying J is a done deal, we wanted to tell you what you can expect from this Fortune 500 Company. Reporter Casey Browning visited a Flying J in Quincy, Florida, and filed this report: "whether you like it or not, Dothan will be home to a brand new Flying J Truck Stop just like the one in Quincy. Cloverdale neighborhood residents have been fighting to keep the truck stop from invading their neighborhood for close to two years, and in a meeting Wednesday night, the concerned citizens and Flying J came to an agreement. Finally realizing that the Flying J is going to become a reality in the south part of town, residents can take comfort in the following compromises made by the Fortune 500 Company: there will be an exit on Hodgesville Road, and trees are going to be planted in order to block residents view of the Flying J. The corporation has also agreed to fix the drainage problem in the Cloverdale neighborhood. The truck plaza will be similar to the one in Quincy and will accomodate 156 tractor trailers, 127 cars and 7 RV`s. Local residents will enjoy the lower gas prices, and all the other household amenities offered by the travel plaza. Truckers will love it for the "at home" atmosphere. Provided for them are showers, phone booths, and yes, even a barber. The Flying J Corporation has 168 locations nationwide, and 30 more are in the planning stages. Flying J, who is owned by Transporation Alliance Bank, employs more than 12,000 people all over the country. Most Flying J`s have 24-hour restaurants, and hotels adjacent to the Travel Plaza. The company will consider building a hotel at the Dothan location to help conceal the trucks from the roadway."
