Mrs. Merle C. Knight “Mama Knight” of Ashford passed away on Monday, November 10, 2008 at her residence after a brief illness with cancer. She was 94.
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends David Baker and Keith Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Ashford City Cemetery under the direction of Ward Wilson Funeral Home.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, November 11, 2008. Flowers will be accepted.
Mrs. Knight was born September 25, 1914 in Houston County, Alabama, the daughter of the late Jim Cook and Fannie Shelley Cook. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting and was a charter member of Easter Star Wiregrass Chapter #519.
She is preceded in death by her husband, M.L. Knight, son, Billy Knight, daughter-in-law, Arlene Knight, three great-grandchildren, Jared Tyler Draughon, and Katie and John Casey Knight.
Survivors include: two sons, Buddy Knight and his wife, Linda, Chuck Knight, daughter-in-law, Mary Knight, eight grandchildren, Don Alan Knight and his wife, Wendy, Tammy Adams and her husband, Tracy, Tonya Mercer and her husband, Stacy, Teresa Harper and her husband, Jason, Lisa Draughon and her husband, Timmy, Lori Hughes, Danny Knight, Bobby Knight and his wife, Tracy, fifteen great-grandchildren, Brittany Stewart, Abbey Knight, Courtney and Chelsea Adams, Deanna Welch, Jeffrey Kelley, Matthew Harper, Bonnie Barnhart, Karla Maddox, Chris Knight, Misty Brantley, Randy Knight, Kiley and Emily Sutton, Jordan Draughon, five great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Odie Rathel.
Active pallbearers will be: Don Knight, Bobby Knight, Tracy Adams, Jason Harper, Timmy Draughon, Wyatt Barnhart.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Danny Knight, Randy Knight, Stacy Mercer, Chris Knight, and Brent Maddox.
