COURTHOUSE SECURITY-A MAJOR CONCERN

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
In light of the recent shootings in Atlanta, security is a major concern in courthouses across the nation. The Houston County Courthouse is no exception. Presiding Judge Lawson Little, is responsible for security at the courthouse. Within the last month, Judge Little has requested additional keys be made available that opens the rear door to the courthouse for employees that need them. County Commissioners have been reluctant to grant that request because of possible security breaches. Chairman Mark Culver also says that part of the confusion lies in the Alabama laws, which states that there are many components to courthouse security. The Alabama state law requires the sheriff to oversee security. The Supreme Court holds the presiding Judge responsible, but the County Commission is responsible for access to the building.
