After years of keeping her secret inside, Theresa Griffin from Dothan, is going public with her story of survival. She says she wants to help other women who are afraid to speak out. Casey Browning, WDHN News: "Every two minutes somewhere in America, someone is sexually assaulted, and that is not just a statistic to Theresa Griffin...it is a fact of life. Theresa has been a living rape survivor for 15 years, having first been raped at 9 years old. She has found comfort in an on line support group and through individual theraphy. Eight years went by before she ever spoke of her attack. Theresa is sharing her story now so that others might see her bravery and honesty, and face their own fears and shame. The House of Ruth and the Wise Center are two local organizations that help victims of sexual assault and rape." 61% of all rapes are not reported to police. Those rapists, of course, never serve a day in prison. The number for the House of Ruth is 334-793-2232, and the Wise Center for Child Abuse Prevention is, 334-671-1966.
