DOTHAN REGIONAL AIRPORT RECEIVES FEDERAL GRANT

Updated: January 7, 2009
Federal funding has recently become available for airports around the country to make some much needed improvements. Dothan Regional is one of those airports...they`ve been given a grant totaling a million dollars. That may sound like a lot, but that money may not go as far as you would think. Art Morris, airport manager, said, "we have a five year plan infrastructure...and these improvements include many things from runway improvements to lighting, and even checking the durability of asphalt, but these improvements don`t come cheap...they are all very expensive. You don`t fly, you don`t participate." "Every airport is constantly resurfacing something...a million dollars is just a drop in the bucket. A drop in the bucket that is about 10 percent of the cost of your next plane ticket." It may be several months before improvements get underway at the Dothan Airport.
