"THE PLAYGROUND" ASSESSED FINES FOR VIOLATION OF YOUTH EMPLOYMENT ACT

The owner of a popular recreation spot here in Dothan is in trouble with the Federal Government...The Labor Department`s Wage and Hour Division has assessed more than $11,000 in fines aganst owners of "The Playground" on Westgate Parkway. An investigation found that minors are allowed to work in violation of the Youth Employment Provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Investigators found tht 14 and 15 year-olds were employed as bakers, and allowed to operate industrial ovens. The Labor Department says that job is too dangerous for anyone under 16 years of age. Playground management had no comment on the fines.
