Updated: January 7, 2009
Houston County`s work release program has been a leader in rehabilitation for several years, but the county has included a new program tht reportedly has been very successful, and it`s called "Project Rio." Project Rio reduces the cost of taxpayer money and prevents loss of employees by introducing the offender into society and the workforce in what they call a step by step re-intergration. This includes finding participants jobs, furthering their education, and helping them change old habit and negative behavior into positive ones. Project Rio is being looked at as a world leader in programs of its kind, and the directors of the program are presenting it in Las Vegas, Nevada to share the 92 percent success rate with other correction facilities in the country.
