Since the Asian tsunamis struck in late December, internet fundraising fraud has been targeting people right here in the circle city.
Susan Holmes of the American Red Cross talked to WDHN about reaching a goal for tsunami victims. Before the goal was met, the ARC reported to the F.B.I., a fraudulent website posing as an agency. According to the Red Cross, no money was taken from the site that was shut down within hours, however, the idenity of a Dothan resident was stolen.
The Dothan resident whose idenity was stolen is cooperating with the F.B.I. and Dothan police to help solve the case. The Wiregrass area Red Cross says if you have any questions about a fundraiser to call their local office at 792-9852.
