DOTHAN FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONSE TIME GETS HIGH MARKS

When a house catches fire, every second counts...even a slight delay on the part of firefighters could spell disaster. But, the Dothan Fire Department is getting high marks for it`s response time from a national survey. According to a study by the Boston Globe in Massachusetts, firefighters from departments across the country are arriving to fires later each year, and barely over a third of calls nationwide meet national standards for reponse time. According to the study, only 54% of local fire departments were able to reach 90% of building fires within six minutes, a standard set by the National Fire Protection Association, but the Dothan Fire Department has distinguished itself with its quick response time, well below the national average. Capt. Ed Roberts also cited Dothan Firefighter`s quick turnout time of 56 seconds from the time they get the call until they actually are on the road, on the way to the fire. In the past 20 years, the DFD has doubled the number of calls it responds to.
