The United States will have its first every African-American woman to serve as Secretary of State.
Yesterday, Doctor Condoleeza Rice, the already accomplished National Security Advisor, was confirmed for her new position by overwhelming bi-partisan majority in the U.S. Senate.
During the confirmation process, Rice was requently questioned on the U.S. led ward in Iraq, and President Bush`s record.
While some Democrats opposed the nomination, many here in the Wiregrass say they are proud of their fellow Alabamian, who is taking over such an important position.
Another Alabamian commenting on Rice`s confirmation is U.S. Senator Richard shelby, who says today, quote, "As our country continues to face opportunity and challenges ahead on the international stage, I am confident that Dr. Rice will be a strong leader and extremely effective as America`s Chief Diplomat." Unquote.
Rice was sworn in last night at the White House, and will take her place at the State Department this morning.
