At least 220 people have died in a stampede at a Hindu procession in Western India. A government official says a fire prompted thousands to panic, leading to the stampede. Many women and children are among the dead. It all took place near the village of Wai, south of Mumbai. Police estimate more than 300-thousand people had gathered at the Hilltop Temple for the Indu Festival. At least 39 pilgrims died in a similar incident last summer northeast of Bombay.
