GUN BUYERS WARNED ABOUT "STRAW MAN" PURCHASES

The National Shooting Sports Foundation is teaming with federal prosecuters to get out the word about so-called "straw man" gun buyers. As U. S. Attorney Leura Canary in Montgomery explains, that is someone who buys a gun for someone who`s not legally allowed to own one. Canary said yesterday, she doesn`t want anyone tricked into making such a purchase, because the federal penalty can be as much as ten years in prison. She says there`s a nationwide black market in firearms bought in states with lenient gun laws and shipped into high-crime areas.
