After months of searching, the City of Dothan is now a little bit closer to hiring a new Police Chief. After receiving more than 60 applications for the job, and narrowing the field down to 20 or so candidates, City Manager Mike West is optimistic that he will soon have 3 to 5 finalists to interview. West described the kind of person the city needs in a Police Chief, saying he wants someone with experience and that is community minded. West also announced at the City Commission Meeting yesterday, that there is a major sporting event coming to Dothan, sponsored by Movie Gallery. It is estimated that the City of Dothan could realize about a million dollars in revenue from this tennis tournament. West said he hopes to begin interviewing applicants for the Police Chief position next week.
