It was a day of remembrance and celebration in downtown Dothan, as the city honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. yesterday. Each year on this day, the Inter-denomincational Ministerial Alliance sponsors a Memorial..Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade. This year around 300 people marched through downtown Dothan...only yesterday, they made a special stop along the way. Robert Jones of the Inter-denominational Ministerial Alliance, said, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his "I Have A Dream" speech to more than 250,000 people in Washington, DC on August 28, 1968. Jones also said , "Today we celebrate his life and his legacy, and remember his teachings and his dream of peace." Others spoke about how much Dr. King had done for America, how he had taught peace and the importance of non-violent confrontations in order to get his agenda across. While we have come a long way as a society, his dream is not yet realized, and yesterday, that is what the march was about. The Annual MLK, Jr. Day Parade kicked off at 9AM, and ended up at the Dothan Civic Center. The Inter-denominational Ministerial Alliance is a group of about 300 people. The group stopped by the Habitat site for the ground breaking of what is going to be a new subdivision of homes, and a new Carter Center. After that, the group headed to the Civic Center for a time of praise, fellowship, and remembrance of Dr. MLK, Jr. It was stated that it is a time for the community to come together and do something to better our community, and it was the best opporunity to do that by coming together and honoring Dr. King. The Carver Center and the new subdivision of homes is being built at the intersection of Lake Street and Tuskegee Avenue...that`s the exact location of the old Carver High School.
