Police say it is one of the largest shoplifting stings Dothan has ever seen, and almost a dozen alleged shoplifters were arrested at Wiregrass Commons Mall.
Several shoplifters traveled from Montgomery and surrounding cities with stolen merchandise, then returned that merchandise here in Dothan for cash or store credit.
Although shoplifting isn`t abnormal, police say that "organized" shoplifting of this magnitude is new for Dothan, and police have launched a full investigation in hopes of prosecuting.
Those arrested in the sting are, Demetria Harris, Harnella Flonney, Nicole Starks, Shirley Green, and Monica Talley. Other charges may follow after the investigation is completed, most likely on Friday.
According to police, store owners called and complained, and although retailers would not talk on camera in fear of compromising the investigation, many said that this has been going on for months, with the same people and the same types of returns.
