The search for Dothan`s next Police Chief continues. After a nationwide search resulting in almost 100 applicants, those candidates have now been narrowed to 25. The applicants were required to have some previous law enforcement experience with an emphasis on leadership. According to Dothan`s Public Information Officer, City Manager Michael West says he`s also interested in a new chief who is also "community minded." There are local applicants, among them, Cottonwood Police Chief Jim Smith and Dothan Captains, Steve Parrish and John Givens. Alabamians from outside the circle city have also applied, but all of those have been ruled out. According to Dothan`s Public Information Office, those candidates did not have the experience nor skills that the City Manager is looking for.
