Making news across the state...Alabama highways were safer than expected this Christmas Holiday. State troopers had predicted 14 people would die over the 78-hour holiday period. Spokewowman Dorris Teague said that only five people were killed in weekend accidents, all of them on rural roads. Teague said trooper reports for the 2004 holiday weren`t complete as yet, but preliminary data showed at least two of the five victims weren`t wearing seat belts. Alabama troopers will again be out in force over the New Year weekend also, so stay sober, slow down and buckle up.
