A new study released yesterday, shows that many Alabamians are having trouble paying their rent. The National Low Income Housing Coalition says that in Alabama, a minimum wage worker must now work 76 hours a week in order to afford a two-bedroom home at fair market rental rates. Those making just over $14-thousand a year, can only afford monthly rent of $367. The fair market rent on a two bedroom dwelling in Alabama now sits at $512. The study says a 40 hour a week worker must now make at least $9.84 per hour to afford even modest housing.
