Lt. Governor Lucy Baxley spoke to the Dothan Kiwanis Club yesterday.
Her speech contained some plain talk about next year`s budget, saying Governor Riley has some big financial problems on the horizon when the Legislature convenes in February.
Her number one area of concern is how to fund the Medicaid Program. She says, with more people reaching retirement age this year, and a decrease in available revenue, Medicaid could be almost 200-million dollars in the red.
That`s a figure that, Baxley says, should have Alabamians very concerned. Ms. Baxley said, "Alabama is in a health care crisis...don`t let the Special Session fool you...it doesn`t begin to deal with the problem."
The Lt. Governor says the key to solving the medicare crisis is coming up with measures that will keep people from abusing the system, and wasting taxpayer dollars.
