The cold weather means more business for the Dothan Rescue Mission, and that also means they need your help. Samuel Jones, who was previously homeless has come a long way in the last three years...he went from being homeless to serving as the lodging manager at the Dothan Rescue Mission. He knows firsthand exactly how important shelters can be for those who have no place to call their own. Brad Hardy, Executive Director of Dothan Rescue Mission says, "it`s very important, sometimes a life or death situation, especially in weather like this and it gives us the opportunity to help. Cold temperatures brings a lot of business for our staff...we see a lot of homeless people, especially at this time of year." The mission is a non-denominational organization that sees itself as an extension of the church to minister to people having particular needs within the community. They do have a six week program where someone can stay up to six weeks, working and earning money to find their own place. The mission serves about 25-40 people every day, and they say they need your help. If you have clothing, food, furniture, miscellaneous items that they can sell to make a profit, all donations will be greatly appreciated. They distribute food to needy families who have no food or money to spend on food after paying for drugs, etc. If you have donations or canned food and non-perishable items, they can be dropped off at the Dothan Rescue Mission Administrative Building on Crawford Street, or clothing, furniture or any other donations can be dropped off at the Dothan Rescue Mission Thrift store...items will be sold for profit, which will go back to the mission and the shelter.
