K-MART-SEARS MERGER

Two of the countries retail giants are about to get a lot bigger. Sears and K-Mart Department stores are expected to join forces by March of 2005. The 11 billion dollar transaction will create the third largest U. S. Retailer. The companies have released a joint statement, saying the new company will be known as "Sears Holdings." Many local consumers are excited about the future of those two companies becoming one. Both stores have struggled to keep up with their competitors. Both recently introduced new product lines...K-Mart taking on the Martha Stewart and Joe Boxer labels, and Sears has started carrying more recognizable clothing brands, like "Landsend."
