"JANA DOES MY JOB"

Updated: January 7, 2009
This is the third and final part of an 18 close-up series...it`s called, "Jana Does My Job". Over the past two days, WDHN`s Jana Jacobs has spent her day switching places with someone else and trying a new job. She was a D. J. at Thunder 103.9FM, as well as a sandwich artist at Subway...what was she doing this time? Dave Willett, owner of Dave`s Auto Repair has been working as a mechanic for twenty five years, however, Jana said she knew nothing about this job, and thought it would be fun to give it a shot. Willett let her change the oil in his car...she said he was brave to let her do this since she had never done anything like this.... Jana said the first thing she did was put on gloves...something she was glad she could do since she had just had her nails done the day before. She said, (quote) "he walked me through the steps of how to give his own 1970 porche 9-11 an oil change...he showed me how to set the lift on one side of the car so that when lifted, the car won`t fall...and then told me to set the lift on the other side. After a little help, I lifted the car up to what I thought was a working level...next it was time to pull the drain plugs out of the engine and drain the engine oil. After a messy start, I was happy to know tht it was time to check the air in the tires, a much cleaner job....35 pounds of air pressure in each tire...this was an easy job. Once the tires were filled with air, I screwed the drain plugs back in and lowered down the car. It was now time to unscrew the oil filter and replace it with a new one...Dave explained to me the importance of unscrewing the filter quickly and tilting it up, in hopes that no oil would be spilled throughout the engine....I did it...without a spill! And, last but not least, I filled the filter with oil." (end quote) Just how well did Jana do? Dave said she followed instructions really well, but trying to turn those nuts and bolts was a little hard...Jana said spending a day at the repair shop was a lot of fun, but thinks she will keep her day job, but one thing she did learn is that she will continue to let someone else change the oil in her car. She said Dave was much better at this job than she was.
