SPECIAL CITIZENS DAY AT FESTIVAL

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The crowds came out in numbers yesterday as the fairgrounds opened earlier than the usual five o`clock start time, to welcome guests for Special Citizen`s Day. The festival has run the event annually for some time now....it`s designed for people that have developmental disabilities or special needs. The time is set aside for adults and children`s programs to take advantage of the Peanut Festival in a less crowded and active environment. The Dothan Civitan Club fed all the "special citizens" free corn dogs, chips, drinks and ice cream. Local merchants donated the food...Ray`s Restaurant cooked the corn dogs, and the Civitan and Wiregrass Hospice volunteers handed out the food. The festivities continued last night for the general public...it was ladies night at the fair, and plenty came out to have a good time and enjoy discounted tickets.
