SOUTHTRUST MERGER

Some area Southtrust employees will learn next week, whether their jobs are among the 43-hundred on the chopping block due to a merger with Wachovia. The layoffs will occur in increments...the merger is expected to be completed Monday, but the actual process could take over a year. It was announced back in July that Southtrust executives will receive a severance package worth a very sizable 60 million dollars. Wachovia paid out 14-billion dollars to acquire Southtrust.
