Northview Ends Long Losing Streak With Win Over Opelika

Updated: January 7, 2009
The Northview High School Football Team earned it`s first win since 2000, by beating Opelika 10-3 Thursday night at Rip Hewes Stadium. The Cougars had lost 39 straight games before upsetting the Bulldogs. Jon Knight returned a fumble 91 yards for a touchdown midway through the 2nd Quarter to give Northview a 10-3 lead. And, the Cougars defense made that 7-point lead stand up, thwarting every Bulldogs drive over the last 2 and a half quarters to get the victory. The Cougars and Bulldogs traded field goals in the 1st Quarter, before Knight`s big defensive play. Northview will wrap up it`s regular season at home next Friday night, hosting Stanhope-Elmore. In one other High School score from Thursday night, Ashford routed Rehobeth 34-0. Make sure to tune into WDHN News 18 at 5, 6 and 10 as well as Gridiron Glory on Friday, as Kim Allen will have much more on Northview`s first win since the 2000 season.
