Senator Richard Shelby dropped in on the Wiregrass yesterday. He met the Republican Women of Coffee County for lunch in Enterprise, and the Senator`s agenda was loaded...everything from his own re-election bid, to Iraq, to the future of Fort Rucker.
Senator Shelby is running for his fourth term in the United States Senate, and with only 14 days until election, he is making his rounds across the state.
Elections, Iraq, and the war on terror, were all hot topics with the Senator, and when it comes to Fort Rucker`s future, he says he feels positive about the issue. Shelby says, "the mission of Ft. Rucker and the role it plays in national security is unique. I would hope we could strengthen the role of Ft. Rucker in the future, because it`s central to our helicopter system that we operate in the army, and without them, we`ve got problems."
When asked about the war in Iraq, Shelby thinks the United States has done well thus far...he believes no one anticipated the intensity of the ground war, however he says, the U. S. must prevail...he says, "we cannot run, they`re trying to drive us out...terrorist come from all over the world to make it difficult...we need to set an example that we have willpower and courage to stay and win."
The Republican Women of Houston County were also a part of the luncheon.
