At the Dothan City Commission meeting yesterday, Commissioners were sparring over what to do about junk cars that are piling up around town. Some say it is a problem that is getting out of hand.
There was a heated discussion for some commissioners regarding the problem, and Commissioner Jason Rudd, said it is taking too long to get vehicles removed once they have been identified. Police Chief John White says, the Police Department is understaffed, however, they pursue abandonded vehicle violations vigourously.
Commissioner Redding says he gets complaints from District One residents regarding the vehicles, and wants to put some teeth in the ordinance. After much discussion, District Four Commissioner Jason Rudd brough up an alternative idea that may help solve the problem.
The Kidney Foundation will take your vehicle away, and will not charge you. Places like Emfinger Steel will pay you for scrap metal...it`s a problem that can be solved, and the city needs your help.
Officials encourage Dothan residents to help clean up the city of Dothan, and removing abandoned cars is one of the first steps.
If you have an abandoned vehicle, you can take it to Emfinger Steel on Old Webb Road here in Dothan...they will buy the vehicle and depending on the weight, they will pay you anywhere from thirty-five to seventy dollars.
