DALE COUNTY RECEIVES GRANT TO FIGHT ILLEGAL DRUGS

"The Coalition for a Drug Free Dale County" has received a grant for 500 thousand dollars made in increments of 100 thousand over the next five years, for drug prevention in Dale County. The Dale County Children`s Council made the announcement yesterday, and officials say the grant will expand drug prevention services within the county. They plan to publish a quality newsleter, establish a website, and parent groups, churches, and other organizations to talk about drug prevention. The grant would not have been possible if Dale County was not already working on drug prevention issues. Officials say in order to apply for funding, the Coalition had to demonstrate that they had worked together over the last six months on drug prevention, and they say that was easy to do since they had been working on the issue for years. Dale County is one of two communities being recognized in the State of Alabama, and officials say the more money given to teach residents about drug prevention, the better off their community will be. Spectracare will coordinate all of the extra efforts that are now made possible because of the grant, and Dale Medical Center has generously provided office space for the coalition.
