Dothan`s Public Works Director has also been standing in as Dothan Utilities Director since the retirement of Jimmy Kilgore, and since November, he has been Interim City Manager. But, as you know that is about to change following formal approval of candidate Michael West.
Thirty days and counting...Jerry Corbin can say goodbye to at least one of these hats.
In Corbin`s ten months stay as City Manager, he has dealt with quite a few controversal issues from hiring freezes to police investigations and oh yes, the city`s controversion to the Retirement System of Alabama. Big stuff, for a man just filling in...Corbin, as well as the commission, has had to deal with lots of public scrutiny on the journey to finding a permanent replacement. Many feels that the city has simply been wasting taxpayers money, which they say is not true.
Shortly after taking the job, there were cutbacks in personnel servies, and after he was appointed, a hiring freeze. Corbin says one of the most difficult tasks for him was trying to figure out which jobs to cut in order to effectively transition into the Retirement System of Alabama. Out of all that, Corbin has challenged and conquered as City Manager, he says there is no substitute for employee trust and good leadership skills, which most who have worked with Corbin, would say he has mastered.
Michael West is expected to take over the City Manager position on November 1st.
