As the Dothan City Personnel Board`s investigation continues surrounding the resignation of Police Captain Jim Smith, many are now starting to ask questions...like, at what cost is the investigation to the city, and who`s paying for all the attorney`s fees that are piling up?
Those were Commissioner Pat Thomas` concerns raised at Tuesday`s City Commission Meeting.
A few months ago, the Commission requested that the attorney representing the Personnel Board, Jerry Segrest, provide an itemized statement showing what the city is paying for.
The latest bill shows that over 14-thousand dollars was charged for just the month of August....included in that amount?...two thousand dollars for copying services, which Thomas finds disturbing. Mr. Thomas said, " the bill is up to 75 thousand dollars and at some point, I need to have some answers before I can support paying that bill."
Thomas says he wants to know why the bill is so high...he says the city needs to get to the bottom of the investigation, but he does not want to throw away taxpayer dollars if the city ends up not being able to move forward with the inquiry.
