The Dothan Chapter of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America got a big "thanks" for helping keep our area kids safe. The chapter recently received an award on the state level for their latest efforts in what is called the "Street Smart" program. That`s a joint effort between the Dothan P. D. and the boys and girls club which helps promote awareness and gang prevention for local kids. They say their work helps kids understand the importance of gun safety in a comfortable environment for learning. Gun crimes are more often and especially through youth, and here they are around people they can trust. Their goal was to reach 150 kids thorugh the program...but the organization has far exceeded that number, reaching a whopping 350 children. The program also helped distribute over 12-hundred gun locks as well.
