Dothan City Schools are facing a problem that could actually be a good thing for local residents who may be looking for work.
At their meeting yesterday morning, the board discussed several vacancies, both full and part time which need to be filled right away.
Dr. Leon Hobbs, who serves as Dothan City`s Superintendent, says the openings are due to a variety of reasons....he says they`ve had several retirements as well as people leaving due to family situations, and some who were not asked back. He said they have nearly 1200 employees so there`s always a constant motion of someone coming in or out of the process.
School board members are on the search for elementary school teachers, lunchroom workers and especially school bus drivers. They had two positions called Program Specialists, basically Assistant Principals at elementary schools that were filled yesterday....had some teachers changing positions because of enrollment adjustments, had a retirement, new hires, transportation, and they also hired some computer assistants, so they had a whole spectrum of personnel action yesterday.
Mr. Hobbs said a lot of action took place, but there is still a lot to be handled...he says 135 employees were hired this summer alone, however they are still in need of more help.
If you know someone who is interested in a position, you can log onto the city school board website at www.dothan.k12.al.us.
