Mayor Chester Sowell says a total of about 800-thousand dollars is being requested from the city, but with state retirement issues hanging over the city`s head, and the future possibility of more job cuts, the commission is not quite sure how Dothan will be able to handle the heavy burden. A number of local agencies are looking for money, and at yesterday`s city commission meeting, various non-profit organizations put in their requests for city appropriations. For now, the commission has decided to meet with each agency starting the first week of September to determine whether the city can and will give the funding needed.
